Introduction

Nauplio is one of the most popular destinations. The distance from Athens is 1,5kh with convenient transport available if you don't want to use your private car. It offers plenty of accommodation. People visit it all year around – who hasn't visited even once- fact which lists it among the destinations – surprise. I agree! But the main point with Nauplio capital of the peripheral Unit of Argolida and the municipality of Nauplio, is that if you visited once, you will surely return back. Because this town makes you feel welcome and as a tourist or guest you ll feel that you come back home.


What to do - Best off

Start from the centre the Syntagma square, in the centre of the old town. There you'll see “Kyvereio or Palataki”, the Archaeological Museum housed in an old venetian warehouse, the temple of Saint George. On the ground floor of Vouleftiko you can visit the National Gallery.

The alleyways (dromoskales) connect the town with Akronaflpia and it worths visiting. Picturesque houses with gardens, small balconies, flowers on the corner, familiar smells.

On the foothills of Akronaflpia, rear Staikopoulou street there is Psaromahalas, the oldest neighbourhood of Nauplio. It is dated since the 13th century and it was named by the fishermen.

Palamidi, the fort constructed by the Venetias. To get there and enjoy the view you can either climd – according to the legend 999 steps or you can drive. There you can visit Theodoros Kolokotronis prison and you can tour the bastions.

Then, you can take the boat from the port and enjoy a short boat ride to Bourtzi the castle in the sea built in the 15th century by the Venetians on the island of St. Theodore.

To admire the sunset go to Arvanitia. Follow alleys and you will meet the famous beach of Arvanitia, where you can go swimming.

If you love the sea, the way from Arvanitia to the beach of Karathona is unique with several spots for relaxation.

Nauplio is a tourist destination all year round. Carnival is unforgettable with many surprises and the Venetian spirit is prevalent, while every two years Sail Week is organised.

From Palamidi, weather permitting, the view to the castle of Argos, (Larisa) and the lit castle of Astros (Estella) is spectacular, giving an idea to modern people about the time when Venetians where dominating the sea of Peloponnese. Those three castles, as Bourtzi on the island where constructed by the Democracy of St. Marcus.

Nauplio is constantly developing. Great restaurants and cafes, gelaterias and traditional tavernas will satisfy every taste. In the art center Fougaro, which was created in the premises of an old factory you can enjoy your coffee, watching artistic and cultural events.
